How can you protect your MS Access database?
As the MDB or MS Access database data file is designed to be used by the MS Access program or by other software it can only be protected by employing features and methods understood by these programs. Otherwise anything done to the MDB file outside these methods would make the file unreadable.
So What methods can you use to give adequate protection to your MS Access database?
There are a number of different methods and approaches recommended by Microsoft. When applied in the right order and by using the best methods this can make an MDB quite secure.
However, remember that nothing in computing is 100% secure.
You can download SECFAQ (the Microsoft MS Access Security Frequently Asked Questions document) and produce the same results as MDBSecure. However the process is quite time consuming to do by hand.
What does MDBSecure do?
In brief MDBSecure employs various methods to remove security holes in the MDB file. It adds user level security and encrypts the access database, using the built in MS Access encryption. If you provide your MDB file with the protection provided by MDBSecure your database will be more secure than before. The protection will defeat all but serious MS Access professionals.
